Netiquette Reflections

After reading and taking notes on Netiquette share with us which rules you find to be the most offensive and why.

Also share with us the rule you think most people violate and in what circumstances.

Do you think we need rules for how we behave on the net (internet), why or why not. Be specific and give examples.

Remember when you are responding to the blog you must use the class blog rules. Go back and read them if you forgot.

  1. The rule that is most offensive when broken is Rule 2. If you wouldn't do it in real life, don't do it in cyberspace. The rule that is most broken is probably Rule 7. People always fuel flame wars, and they always will.

  3. 1. flame wars because it gets annoying listening to the same person complain about something
    2. i think the most violated rule for netiquette is respect peoples privacy
    3. yes because so many hurtful things can be said or done from over the internet such as posting embarassing videos of others or cussing someone out and saying things to make them very sad angry or even in the worst case scenario "suicidal"

  4. I think that the rules do help. When people don't follow the rules, someone gets their feelings hurt.

  5. I find rule 7 to be the most offensive rule because during flame wars people will keep talking about the same subject. After awhile it gets annoying and they can become very offensive to the person its directed at. I think people most violate rule 8. Many people are nosey and want to know their friends business. Even if it means to hack their email and read it. The emails that recipitant recieves is their private business. Chances are, they dont want people to know their business. I do think we need rules on the internet because often we find ourselves breaking these netiquette rules. If we follow these, we can prevent flame wars and much more. There may not be as many arguements on the internet if we use netiquette.

  6. I believe the rule that is most offensive if broken is rule two. Rule two tells you to adhere to the same standards online in which you have in real life. Act online how you would act in real life towards someone. It is very offsensive if someone is rude online compared to in person. Treat others the way you would want to be treated.

I believe most people violate rule seven the most. Rule seven states that flame wars should be kept under control."Flaming" is what people do when they express a strongly held opinion without holding back any emotion. Flaming is not forbidden, it is a standard tradition. But Netiquette does forbid the perpetuation of flame wars -- series of angry letters, most of them from two or three people directed toward each other, that can dominate the tone and destroy the camaraderie of a discussion group.

Yes, I think that we need rules online. With no rules people would ruin the internet for everyone else in multiple ways. For exapmle, if you do not know where you are in cyberspace and post whatever you want, it could be innapropriate to do. All the netiquette rules are important to follow because they keep the internet and cyberspace a safe, nice place to be.

  7. I find that rule 7 is the most offensive rule. Rule 7 is the most offensive because when people are in flame wars they keep going on the same subject and it is VERY annoying! The rule most people violate is respecting other. People dont follow this rule. Its like everytime you turn around people are reading your emails, which is very disrespectful. Yes we need rules for how to behave on the internet, if we didnt have them it would be a giant fight with the world leading to more problems

  8. The rule that I find most offensive if you were to break that rule would be rule number one. You have to remember that some things that you could say online to someone might be offensive if you don't say something in the right words.

I think the rule that people most likely take advantage of would be rule number nine.

I don't think we need rules but we should be careful about what we do or say online.

  9. The most affensive rule when broken is rule number one. When you break this rule you can hurt mor than just the person you are talking to. The rule I think that is broken the most is rule number 7 because people always seem to flame people and start flame wars. I think we should have rules for the internet because it would help people stay safe and protected and prevent people from hurting them.

  10. I think that rule seven is the most offensive because it gets out of hand very easy. I also think that it is the rule people do not follow the most. I think we do need rules for how to act online because if we didn't there would be arguments and people being rude and there would be nothing people could do about it.

  11. The rule that i think is the most important is rule #10. This rule states that every one makes mistakes and sometimes you dont need to correct them. I think people do not respect rule #4.I dont think people respect others time.

  12. 1. I think rule number nine is most offensive because your violating someone else's privacy and you don't know how important that stuff is that you are reading.
    2. Most people violate rule number four because there is a lot of useless stuff on the net and a lot of it wastes your time.
    3. yes i do think we need rules on the net or else it will be complete chaos and nobody would like to be on the net anymore.

  13. After reading and taking notes on the rules of Netiquette, I found the seventh rule the most offensive. Flame wars destroy the purpose of a group and because they only apply to two or three people, it can be boring to others.
I think most people would violate rule eight because in today's society people are nosy and love to start rumors with whatever information they can find.
I believe we need rules to behave online because if we didn't have them, there would be a lot of fights and feelings would get hurt because we wouldn't know how to refrain from insulting people.

  14. I think that rule 1 is the most offensive. I say this because the rule states that you should treat everybody the way you would want to be treated. But online alot of people dont follow that rule, and they say things that they wouldnt say to someones face.

  15. 1) The rule that is most offensive to me is when rule number one is broken. Not respecting people under any circumstance is completely ridiculous.Even if you cannot see the person on the other side of the screen, you do NOT have the right to treat them badly. If you do not have the courage to say mean things in person, dont day it online.
2)The rule that I feel people break most often is rule number seven. People love to start trouble becuase they're either bored or just love instagating. When people get mad it is somewhat funny to watch them explode with anger, this is probably an insentive.
3)Personally, I do not think we should have rules for the internet, just reminders. People should know better than to start trouble and act rude towards others. We should already know that respect is a MUST at anytime, a person's privacy should be respected, and someone's time should not be wasted.

  16. After reading and taking notes on netiquette I think rule seven is to be the most offensive.Mainly Because it can be very dangerous. Rule seven deals with flame wars.Flames can be lots of fun, both to write and to read. And the recipients of flames sometimes deserve the heat.
I think most people violate rule one. I think this because people on the internet dont really care what they do.It’s easy to misinterpret your other persons meaning. And it's easy to forget that the other person is a person with feelings more or less like your own.
Yes,I do think the internet needs rules. Because without them things could really get out of control. Some poeple would just be really mean and really wouldnt care what they do. But with rules tehy would realize there conquences of there actions. So, they would probally never do it again.

  17. I think that most people violate rule 7. Keeping flame wars under control. I say this because when people are online they just express there thoughts and opinions without holding back any emotion, Which is also known as "Flaming".Flaming is forbidden and should not be used against others.

  18. -The Rule i find most offensive is rule number two.
-The rule i think is most violated is rule number 8. Thats because alot of people are nosy, and if you have a nosy friend, they will mostlikely go through your stuff to see what your saying.
-Rule are needed at some point because without them the internet wouldn't be so nice. With them it keeps everything under control. For example some websites wont let you cuss.

  19. I think that rule #1 is most important. You should always treat people the way that you would like to be treated. If you treat someone with respect, then you will get treated with respect also. But many people don't follow this rule.

The main rule people violate is rule # 7. 'Flaming' is something that people do when they express their feelings out in strong emotions. You see all over the web that people are starting flame wars with each other. They are somewhat amusing to other people, but mainly uncalled for. Yes, Netiquette does forbid this.

Yes, i think the internet should have these rules. First off, i don't think you should start anything with anyone on the internet. Especially if you dont know them. Its very rude and disrespectful towards others. You can also get in trouble for sending bad emails to someone. You have no reason to be mean to anyone on the web. Some people like to start drama with other people and call them names, but the best thing you should do is think before you speak. Treat others the way you want to be treated. So therefore, the rules of netiquette are perfect for the internet.

  20. Rules should be given for the internet so it would be a better place. If no rules were given then the internet could be a big mess and you probably would get caught in flame wars from time to time.

  21. After reading and taking notes on all the rules of Netiquette I think the most offensive rule is rule 1. You should treat people as you would want to be treated. A lot of people forget about this. If you’re going to be mean to someone, there likely going to be mean back and vice versa , if you show them respect then they will probably show you respect.
I think they main rule people violate is rule number 7. People will just go back and forth ‘flaming’ and not even notice other people around them. People will always start flame wars, and they probably always will.
No, I don’t think we need ‘rules’ but I do think people should be watched with what they’re saying, and what they’re putting on the internet. Because when you say it, it will always be there.

  22. I find rule 2 most offensive when broken. Rule 2 states that you should follow the same rules in cyberspace that you do in real life. When this rule is broken people start saying things and doing things online that they would never think of saying real life.

I think the rule that is most broken in rule 1. People dont realize that what they post online can be seen by everyone. It is alot easier to type mean things on a computer screen than to say them to a person's face. Alot of times we forget this.

Yes i do think that we need rules to follow while dealing with cyberspace. It keeps things safe and reminds us to respect others even online.

  23. The one that i find most offensive is respect others privacy becauce its rude to look into others things, and if they didnt want you looking at there stuff it was most likely for a good reason.

The rule that i feel most people violate is the don't waste others time rule because all the time someone is sending someone a silly email or silly message on some website.

Yes i think we need rules because if we didnt have them things would get way out of control, and peoples privacy would get violated. we would have a lot of people geting mad.

  24. The rules I find to be the most offensive are rules 1 and 8. In rule 1, it tells us to treat others as you would want to be treated. I find it very distasteful if you make fun of someone. Rule 8 explains that you need to respect poeple's privacy. It is rude for someone to go snooping in anothers things.

The rule I think most poeple violate is rule 3. Rule 3 states "Know where you are in cyberspace". It requires you to search and look through an unknown website before you use it. Usually people just find a website and don't think twice about what could be on there. You should always be aware of where you are on the web.

Yes, I do believe we need rules for how we behave on the internet. If you set down guidelines to the use of cyberspace,it would be a much safer place to use. Without rules, people would do basically whatever they wanted. The amount of fighting and stealing online would increase. Netiquette sets a structure for poeple to base their behaviors on.

  25. 1) The rules that I think are most effensive are 1 and 4. I think this way because Rule #1 states that you should do to other what you would want done to you. And if you brake that rule then not only one can get hurt but everyone that reads it. Also rule #4 say that you need to respect other peoples time, but if you brake that rule then you may be doing a lot to there life by breaking the rule. U would be waisting there time for a lot more inpotant things then you.
    2) The rule that I think most people violate is # 1. I think this because knowmatter what site your on you always endup seeing someone being mean to someone else. By either making fun of them or doing anything to hurt there feelings.
    3) Yes I think that we need rules on the internet because if we didnt people could get away with almost anything that they want. From like inapropriate thing to bad thing, to even mean things.

  27. Rule seven seems to be the most offensive when broken. Flame wars after a while start to annoy others. While they are talking about the same subject, some people can become very offensive to the person it's directed to.

Rule one, I believe, is most broken. People on the internet dont think before they post something. They don't understand that what they say or post online can be seen by anyone and everyone. A lot of times the things people write on the computer would never be said to the person's face.

Yes, I do think we need rules for how we behave on the internet because they are there to help us and protect us from getting hurt. Without them, the internet would be very harmful because people online would be able to get away with anything without any punishment.
